We talked about how many postpaid subscribers have the Big Four cell phone service carriers from the United States of America right now, but from my point of view another statistic is quite interesting. The Federal Communication Commission delivered recently some numbers from the last three years and the first half of 2014 in which they analyzed how many users had and have, global, the main cell phone carriers from the United States.

Leader Verizon

As expected, Verizon is the leader at this chapter. With 108,667 million customers in 2011, the provider reached in the first half of 2014 129,615 million after a constant and continuous increase 116,570 (2012) and 125,535 (2013). Second ranked in the top is AT&T that also had positive impact in the last four years, as they climbed from 103,247 million subscribers in 2011 to 116,542 at the end of the first half of 2014, with 106,965 in 2012 and 110,276 last year.

Big problems for Sprint

The things don’t stay so good as well for Sprint unfortunately. Apart from the financial problems which they suffer right now, the carrier met a recession of customers in the last years. Starting with 55,021 million in 2011, Sprint Mobile grew with only a few hundred thousand in the next year and after the fall started and constantly remained because customers started leaving more and more. This way, Sprint had by the end of the first half of 2014 only 54,080 million customers.

T-Mobile, spectacular!

Exactly like Verizon and AT&T, but at lower scale, also T-Mobile grew year by year. In fact, from 2012 to 2013 they had the most spectacular climb in the top with an addition of 16 million subscribers, going from 30,299 million to 46,684 million. At this moment, they passed 50 million customers and endanger seriously Sprint’s position on the market.
