It doesn’t matter how efficient smartphones become because, even though, they have more and more users, the new generation has other tastes. Obviously, this isn’t a big surprise considering the development of tablets. A mix between a laptop and a cell phone, the tablet might be very useful in many times. This fact was also noticed by the giant providers from the United States which now offer a lot of data plans with tablets and so they add new subscribers.
December is usually a difficult month for service providers from all around the World because the customers expect different kind of promotions. This way you can attract them and other from rivals, but it can bring also a financial gap in the company’s budget. It might be so, but Verizon and AT&T try in this year’s period to ensure as many customers as possible by giving away free or almost free tablets. With a two years commitment of course.
Free tablet for 10 dollars per month contract
For example, Verizon is giving this month free devices for a 10 dollar month service fee which, at the end of its duration, after two years, will reach 240 dollars. Meanwhile, AT&T offers Amazon Kindle Fire HDX model with 99 cent. All this strategies should ensure an important customer growth as statistics made by Recon Analytics say the last year 61 percent of the total monthly subscribers growth at the big four carriers from the U.S. thanks to tablets.
Sprint lost 2.4 million phone subscribers, but won 1.8 million on tablets
This strategy usually aims to keep their existing subscribers because they prefer to add some data on their monthly bill for an extra charge but also for them to get the tablet. In fact, without this strategy, one of the Big Four, Sprint, would have much more problems that they have at this moment because of the customers which leave the network. In the last year, they lost 2.4 million phone subscribers, but got 1.8 million on tablets which means the deficit was covered in an important measure. Also, Verizon sold twice as many tablets as phones in the last three years!
7-inch Ellipsis for free
And exactly Verizon offers this month you maybe ask… No problem, I’ll tell you! Their stores are giving 7-inch Ellipsis devices free for customers who sign up for two years, in the conditions mentioned earlier. Usually, the data plans which you have to get in exchange for this kind of tablets are between 10 and 20 dollars per month and this it’s like adding another line to your account, so wireless companies count that as an additional customer.
