Texting and driving become one of the most dangerous hobbits of this decade. Many accidents and life lost happen in traffic because of these, reason for which a couple of measures are tacking by those who have the power to do so. For example, in Texas, one from five car crashes happened in 2013 involved distracted drivers, a number which can’t be neglected.
For this, in January 2015, a bill named the Alex Brown Memorial Act will be implemented and aims to fight against texting and driving. It is named after a school senior who lost her life in the way to school after being involved in an accident while she was texting and driving. Today, 44 states from the territory of the U.S. have banned and put outside the law text messaging for all drivers that are in traffic.
In San Antonio, for example, all handheld cellphone use will be banned starting to 1st of January 2015. The grace period will be implemented for 30 days, interval after which the police will give a 200 dollars fine for everyone who is caught speaking on his mobile phone while driving. Exceptions from this rule are: hands-free devices, mounted devices, exceptions for emergencies and truckers licensed to use handheld radios.
In the fought for a safer traffic and less endangered life of all participants in it also the big cell phone carriers from the United States of America have something to say. For example, AT&T developed an application, named DriveMode that silence text messages when the vehicle is going 15 mph on iPhones and 25 mph on Androids. This way, the driver won’t hear the notification and won’t be distracted in the moments when he drives his car.
