The fact that postpaid services and land lines mean also paying the 911 service may oblige also the prepaid providers to add a tax. At least this is the opinion of estate authorities from many states and from all of these, Wyoming is the last one on the list which strongly consider to make the operators to redirect a tax to these services. As far as we know right now, information is talking about 1.5 percent.
Half a million dollars to come up
Most likely, this tax will be purchased from your pocket during the refill process at checkout. Before it can be approved, the legislation will go to the House Appropriations Committee and if they will give their ‘OK’ it will pass forward to the House Floor for debate and, eventually, for a vote. In the case it will be approved it is expected that it will generate around half a million dollars for the state’s 911 services, sum which will be, most likely, split between counties based on their population. It is important to mention that according to tax information from AT&T’s GoPhone, at this moment more than half of the states currently require carriers to collect a prepaid 911 fee, although the amounts vary from state to state. Let just see how the situation just end up in the end!
